Laburnum is one of the most dense and darkest in colour of the UK timbers.  The green – olive colour evident on fresh exposure of the wood to planing and cutting gradually darkens to a deep chocolate brown,  over a period of several years.

It cuts, planes, sands and polishes extremely well;  it is akin to Rosewood in such properties,  but not so oily.  Being very dense it resists denting well.

Whilst laburnum is a fairly common tree in town gardens,  it is rare to get to timber trade sizes or come to the timber market on a regular basis;  due to its amazing properties and particularly its rich dark colouring it is one of our most prized and valued timbers.
