Patrick’s Pick of the Week – ALDER BURR 4cm thick – tree number 0641-3 Natural Waney Live Edge Slab

A rare board of which I have only 3 boards left from one of the most beautifully figured trees of alder I have ever had – I had these hoarded away for personal use for years but in a mid life crisis moment along with others decided someone had better get the use of them.  Almost identical to Birch but a bit harder, denser and richer in colour,  Alder is a hard, stable timber which polishes beautifully and is a good mimic of figured mahogany if given a slight wash of stain- it was used extensively along with figured, or ‘flamey’ as i call it, Birch in victorian times.  http://www.thewoodplace.com/product/alder-burr-4cm-thick-tree-number-0641-3-natural-waney-live-edge-slab-board-kiln-dried-planed-seasoned-hardwood-wildwood-timber/ for the full details, £267 inc delivery

Bianca – the wood is supplied as planed boards for woodworkers, not as finished manufactured product, but I can carry out extra furniture making services as additional work. Unfortunately just UK shipping these days.
