Lime is one of the softer UK grown ‘hardwoods’ and will dent and mark a little if used for tabletops and worktops but cuts, planes, sands, takes a stain and polishes very well.  Its softness comes with an unusual crispness when chiselled with sharp tools which makes it Britain’s prime carving timber.

Lime has moderate movement in service properties,  so it will stay reasonably stable if moisture content changes.

We have found Lime a good general furniture timber and just love working with it.
