Up at 5 this morning & away with Fraser Dunlop Haulage to just north of Kirkcaldy in Fife to the very fine Wemyss estate to collect some of the logs / butts I have bought recently. Lovely big diameter coloured heart beech and a big burry oak. Back over the new Forth Bridge, the ‘Queensferry Crossing’, very breezy, and unloaded in the yard by 2.30pm. Crazy big butt end of the beech is about 6 foot across with the toes still left on – if i can squeeze it through the big saw i will cut some huge end grain ‘cookies’. Some of the straight beech will be cut thin and ready well within a year.
