Patrick’s Pick of the Week – Poplar Table Set 996A-1/2

link to this set on the website – http://www.thewoodplace.com/product/figured-poplar-table-set-996a-12-natural-waney-edge-wildwood-planed-slab-table-worktop-board/  A pair of beautiful figured poplar boards 9.5cm thick and 235 cm thick,  would make a lovely dining table if joined (we can do) at over a metre wide.  The wild waney edges can be left or ‘tamed’ by cutting a square edge down a parallel line which would leave some of the wane on some corners,  or completely square edge it.  The figure of this wood is simply stunning when polished – see the pics here of some other items in this wood polished up for commissions we undertook for furniture for customers.  The legs of the table in the pics below show how we sanded back the waney edge enough to reveal the figure whilst still leaving enough of the natural wane.  Those legs are from neighbouring boards from the same tree.  The wood is slightly soft as hardwood goes so not one for hard daily use with kids etc perhaps,  but great for a showpiece table.  Many other uses too of course!  Priced still at the bargain price of £1150 inc vat and delivery as individual boards.
